Description/Album Notes:

Ashley Dalby second's solo album, Twitch!, is the second installment in the guitar trilogy, released three years after Too Much Sex, which was the beginning of the trilogy that is meant to cover the basis of Ashley Dalby's guitar teaching! This album is daring and noted entirely for its eclectic Jazz flavors... The fifth song Prayer is not only one of Ashley's most commanding songs and one often requested by fans, it is made up entirely by different quotes from the Biblical books: Psalms and Proverbs.

Review: Twitch! is legendary guitar virtuoso Ashley Dalby's second album and like the previous one is amazing. Crafted by a humble artist who has yet to lose brilliant ear for writing spiritually influenced masterpieces. Though this is her second album it is remembered more for being the second in a trilogy under the idea of the Open House Collection. The first one was a hard rocking classic that featured not only an assorment of different writers, but displayed Ashley's technical prowess in the realm of blues and rock. The last one is an all-instrumental masterpiece detailing Ashley's breath-taking Classical concept album. Twitch! sees Ashley taking on the challenge of almost every kind of Jazz that exists. Ranging from Acoustic to Swing Jazz there is a bit of flavor for everyone here. Everyone, not just Ashley, plays with a crisp but delicate touch to give every note and melody line a chance to flow smoothly. // 10

Lyrics and Singing: Ashley only sings on five songs, the first of five, Prayer, is an Acid Jazz number in the purest sense of the term, while the second, Goodbye, is a tasty and moving touch on sizzling Arch-Type Jazz. The third of the five, Mask Of Kindness, is one of the strongest moments in Ashley's lustrous career. A romantic and very tender Acoustic Jazz number that details her wide range that she uses as an instrument in of itself. The lyrics are not groundbreaking but they are very tasteful and sung full of passion. The last two songs are full of passionate lyrics and vocals from Ashley's sizzling and sensuous voice. // 9

Impression: But where this album succeeds is in the thick layers of guitar and piano trade offs. Though Ashley does satisfy alone with Open The Crimson Sky Book, The Seduction and Last Night Of A Thousand Years, the album also offers the driving and melodic Arch-Type Jazz of Prayer. Also includes the mesmerizing Free Jazz Ragtime of Bailing Out, Jazz Funk of Nightmare. But the albums highlights come in the form of tracks four and fifteen, the former is a luscious take on Modal Jazz with Let Me Dream. While the former stands out as one of the most recognized Jazz songs of the past twenty-five years. Track fifteen, I Will Understand, is a Smooth Jazz masterpiece that seems destined for Thrash Metal but is kept in groove. Though it is turned into a shred fest live, here on the record it features Piano and Guitar solos that are waiting to bust out.

The album is a wonderful addition to an already legendary career that will soon see the artist return to her Rocking roots, even if only for one album before turning into an even more eclectic entertainer. It is an album worth your money because it is perfect for entertainment, an education to the multiple styles as one of the pioneers of the Death Metal era revealed just how much Jazz is a criminally underrated genre, the influence it has on everyone. This is highly recommended. // 9!
